Michael Kiwanuka, quasi tre anni dopo Love and Hate. Ricordo ancora di aver pensato che ci voleva del coraggio per iniziare un album con una canzone di 10 minuti. Quello era anche il mio coraggio e la mia forza, il mio amore e il mio odio, in un momento in cui non ne avevo più e avevo sentito la necessità di andarmene via, stare da solo, fare cose difficili e guidare un trattore nel mezzo di un cazzo di niente di notte.
Giustamente, sono venuto al concerto di stasera per conto mio, guidando una macchina e sperando che la pioggia smettesse di cadere mentre il chiosco del cibo mi offriva un riparo e da bere.
Ho avuto la scaletta ai suoi piedi, il suo autografo, il plettro della sua Gibson. E più di tutto, l'ho aspettato per ringraziarlo della musica in quei mesi.
Un concerto magnifico.

Michael Kiwanuka, almost three years after Love and Hate. I
still remember me thinking that it took courage to record an album with a
10-minute long opening track. That was my courage and strenght too, my love and
hate, at a time in which I didn't have any left and had felt the need to get
away, be alone, do challenging stuff and drive a tractor in the middle of
fucking nowhere at night.
Fair enough, I went to this concert on my own,
driving a car instead and hoping for the rain to stop while the food kiosk
offered me shelter and drinks.
I got the lineup at his feet, his signature on it, the pick
of his Gibson. Most importantly, I waited after the show was over to thank him
for the music in those months.
A magnificent show.
